Tutorial to help you professionally change colors in Photoshop
In this Photoshop tutorial we will change the color of the flask to match the lunch box.
STEP 1
Open your image
Take the image you want to change the color on. In this case my skooldays flask and lunch box.
STEP 2
Choose the Color.
You can choose any color and you can change this in the future with ease
STEP 3
Basic selection
Make a selection of the area you want to change. This can be done several ways. i prefer the magic wand.
STEP 4
Feather and adjust
Now to make sure all of the area we want gets a fair coverage a great little trick certainly found in CS3 and CS4, “Refine Edge”
This little gem is found on the top tool bar when you have the selective tool active.
You will only need to use the feather here, though you may find the other settings useful if your selection wasnt too clever in step 3
STEP 5
Create a Solid Color Fill layer.
In the Layers palette click on the half white circle and choose Solid Color
The new Layer will appear at the top of the Layers palette with a Layer Mask representing the area we selected in white.
Your photo will now appear to have a blob of the Foreground Color over the area you selected.
STEP 6
Now the professional finish
This is where photoshop works best.
Click on the new Solid Color Fill layer, now add Color for the Blend Mode.

Thank you so much. Was looking for a solution just like this for creation of product photos in various colors.
Thanks!
Yes this method works but not when you want to change a white to anything else.. it just remains white.
i’ve gotten right down to the last step, but don’t know where to go to ‘add colour to the blend mode’. where is this option? and how do i apply it?
Hi Jess
to ‘add colour to the blend mode’ in photoshop go to the layer area – normally on the right and double click the layer – this brings up your blend mode
This was absolutely exactly what I needed! I was trying so hard to match a color by eye with a hue adjustment layer and just failing miserably.
