So how can you convert your JPG to a new colour background? Yet you want it to remain a JPG, know the background colour, and it will always remain that colour. If so then you will need to use Photoshop to remove the background and replace it with your new colour.
See the photoshop tutorial :
How do I convert a JPG image to a new colour background?
There you will learn how to select the background using the magic wand tool.
3 steps were involved.
1 – Select the correct tolerance for the image background
2 – Use Shift or ALT to add and subtract from the background selection.
3 – Fill your selection with the new background colour. We will assume I’m doing an image for my Skooldays.com site (a nostalgic vintage toy site) The background colour will need to be beige or #dfba86
After setting the image to the new background colour #dfba86 I then save my JPG. Using the quality at 40 it saves at 17k – this will be a lot lighter in file size than if I had to use the PNG or GIF equivalent. This is one good reason why using a JPG and not using a PNG or GIF for a transparent background is worthy of consideration
