CS5 without Floating Panels

Adobe has long stuck with Floating Panels in Photoshop. Many are asking whether things will change in CS5. One customer asked “instead of adding “fun” tools in CS5, how about rebuilding the guides pane in Photoshop? It needs to be rebuilt, big time”.

I tend to agree with this sentiment. Adobe Photoshop is quite unique in its interface and pane layout. I would expect a more unified layout in Photoshop CS5 to align itself with all the other ex-Macromedia products.

CS5 without Floating Panels If you are stuck with the floating panels, how do you make them user friendly? The purpose of panels is to group the features that you need. If you prefer a floating panel layout, just click on the panel’s tab and drag it outside of the Panel area. This will make it a floating panel. The idea is it will provide you with more work space when dealing with large image files.

In addition, panes are also important features of the Photoshop interface. All sorts of information is displayed in these panes, and therefore they can get a little confusing. They display location information, tool options, and history, among other things. If you ever lose track of a specific pane, go to the windows menu and select that pane to view it.

Personally i work with a few panes on the right and tend to use the menu drop down on the rare occasions i need additional panes. This suites my way of working, yours may well be different. Lets hope we have a standard approach in CS5 version of Photoshop.
