Its interesting to see that Adobe are currently offering CS4 with a large reduction. So this implies that CS5 is imminent.

Upgrades are alaways a cheaper way than the full product, so the costs are absorbed in the reduction and upgrade. Sometimes software companies will even include a free upgrade when the release date is within weeks of the purchase. As was seen in the case of Windows Vista and Windows 7.

So although Adobe have not given an answer, the general way releases are announced includes a certain amount of goodwill gesture nearer the time.

This is a very good question as it seems a logical way forward. Both products are supreme in there own rights and are moving closer together than ever before. Initially the sepration comes from the idea that Photoshop was “offline” software and Fireworks was online. Ive always used Photoshop for Web Design, though of course Fireworks is designed for web designers. Why would one company keep the two seperate. I must admit, i don’t really know why now they are both under the Adobe umbrella of products.

Of course some would argue that Photoshop isn’t for web designers, but for photographers. Unfortunately web designers wouldnt agree. I would argue that Photoshop is a superior product to Fireworks, and its the power under the hood that makes Photoshop worth the extra money.
