Adobe Photoshop CS5 as a 64-bit version – its true.
So why is 64-bit a good thing for Photoshop CS5? Well it will allow Photoshop to use very large amounts of memory. Due to the increase in digital cameras and broadband, the quality of photographs and design is increasing.
Thus putting heavier loads on the machines.
The nature of photoshop is often a swapping of images into and out of memory. This is a heavt ask for processors, so the 4 gigabytes on hand will be much needed.
Currenlty Adobe plan to ship Photoshop CS5 as a 64-bit native for Windows 64-bit operating systems only. They are also aiming to support a 64-bit Mac version with Photoshop CS5. They say “Adobe share the goal of maximizing Photoshop performance on Mac hardware, and we’re working together on all aspects of that story – 64-bit included. 64-bit computing is an important part of the Photoshop and Lightroom story going forward, but it’s not a magic bullet and we’re not going to oversell it as one. We’re delighted to be offering a 64-bit native Lightroom on both Mac and Windows now, and to deliver a 64-bit native Photoshop on Windows as part of the next release. As for Mac x64, we’ll continue working closely with Apple to make the transition as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
So it looks like Adobe may deliver the 64 bit for Macs and definitely will for Windows version.
